Questions About Coupons?

What do you want to know about setting up discounts and coupons for your visitors and customers?
Since the new coupon box was released in the new version of the shopping cart, it now makes it much easier to give out coupons to your people. It’s a lot of fun to use, and it encourages people to buy from you.

So, since I’m going to relaunch my “How to Setup Discounts and Coupons” program in the coming weeks, and before I do, I’d like to find out what you want to know about using discounts and coupons with your 1ShoppingCart (Marketers Choice) account.

When you give me your questions, no matter how simple or complicated, I can then find the answers and put it together in my training.

So go ahead and comment here and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Christina,

Let’s say you want to offer 3 of your affiliates a special discount coupon just for their customers, like 20% off. You don’t want it to be an automatic discount. You want the customer to put in a coupon code in order to get the discount.

Now you want to keep track of which sales are coming in from which affiliates with the special discount coupon. How do you do that?

If you use ad tracker to track sales, then the customers can’t enter in a coupon code. It’s an automatic discount built into the URL.

This issue came up with someone wanting to keep track of several stores who were promoting their products in the the stores with printed brochures. Because this was a brick and mortor business, the affiliates needed something besides a URL to keep track of their sales, something like a coupon code that customer could type in when they made a purchase.

But I couldn’t find any way to get a report that showed how many sales were coming in on specific coupons.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Karen Brunet

  2. Hi Christina,

No specific question other than I am looking forward to understanding how to use coupons and offer specific discounts. I want to be able to offer promotions to my entire list as well a have specific coupon discounts that always hide in the background.

For example, if a coaching client wants access to an info-product I can give them a code that will allow that person to download the product at no additional charge because it is included in coaching. That is a question I’ve had in the back of my mind so it will be great to resolve it.

Also, I too am interested in using the blog as a survey tool and I have been playing with ideas on that as well. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

    Todd

  3. My question is about refunds for products that were purchased using a coupon. If the client requests a refund on the product, how does the shopping cart treat the refund? Does it refund the amount they paid? Or the amount of the product (without the discount)?
    Thank you!

  4. Hi Cristina,
since you asked, I thought I give you “my 2 cents’ opinion:
As a professional, I find using coupons doesn’t go along with “the image”….so:
Is there a way to create “credit” fotr future purchases/investments, rather than offering “a coupon”?
BTW: you don’t have to respond to me….I’m not ready to do this right now anyway…

  5. My question is how do you combine coupons with trial offers?

My website offers the first 30 days for $1 and reverts to the normal price on a monthly subscription basis. However, I may wish to offer an extended trial period to some subscribers e.g. $5 for the first quarter and then reverting to the normal monthly subscription charge, or something similar. Is there a way to use a coupon to do this when it is radically different to the existing product offering and using a coupon or code so those buyers feel they are getting a special deal?

  6. My question is about how to prevent a customer from using the same coupon code over and over again. I asked 1ShoppingCart if there was anyway to say one coupon per customer and track it so that they can not reuse a coupon, and they said no.

We have always offered potential customers to go to our website and get a substantial discount (usually free) video for their first visit, we sell streaming educational videos. But we always state that Your FIRST visit is on us, only one coupon per customer.

We just rebuilt our website and moved over to 1ShoppingCart, while I love many of it’s other features, this one is very frustrating.

Since 1ShoppingCart doesn’t allow this I am puzzled about how to use this method of sharing our website, which we are under contract with out presenters to use. We can’t give out a huge discount to everyone every time and without being able to use the discount method we will have to come up with a different method of stimulating new customers to go check out the website.

    Please help!

  7. These are all great questions I got about using coupons in your marketing. I now have some good ideas of what else to add to my training program.

If your curious about using a blog as a surveying tool, here are my thoughts.

With a blog, it’s very easy to make a post and ask people for feedback, and also it’s very easy for people to come to a blog and comment.

But with the Ask Database (http://www.AskDatabaseQueen.com) all the questions remain anonymous whereas with comments on the blog, everyone sees everyone elses questions. Plus it has search tools that are handy when you have hundreds of questions.

(If you checked the box for ‘subscribe to these comments’ then you are getting this reply in your email).

When the new “How to Setup Discounts and Coupons” program is ready, everyone who submitted a question will get a coupon for that.

  8. Hi Christina,

I need to know how we can do a coupon for birthdays since the clients have birthdays throughout the year, we can’t put an expiration date on it and like the post earlier we do not want other’s to use the coupon except for the birthday client and not be able to use it multiple times. Is there any way to put something in an autoresponder that has a coupon that will go out throughout the year but have some limitations.

    Thanks,
    Sandy
