‘How can I configure my shopping cart to handle upsells?’
I get asked this question often from my subscribers and customers who want to use the sales tactic of ‘upselling’.
(In case you’re not aware, an upsell is a technique where you suggest a typically lower priced item in addition to the higher priced item your customer has already decided to purchase.)
It is well known that if you suggest another related product during the check out process, you can greatly improve the amount of sales you make each month.
‘Do you want fries with that?’ That’s an upsell that McDonalds made famous. And you may have noticed that when you order a book at Amazon, their website always suggests another, similar book that you might want to add to your purchase.
There are many different ways you can present an upsell to your customers. It all depends upon your business, your products, your market, and how aggressive you want to be. Some techniques are more pushy than others.
So, I don’t have a magic formula to give you on how to propose your upsell to your customers.
What I can show you, though, are nine examples of how to setup an upsell using your 1ShoppingCart(MarketersChoice) system.
In these examples I demonstrate upselling a bike helmet when a customer buys a mini motorcycle bike. In addition, I have included an example of a ‘double upsell’ in which the first upsell is for a bike helmet, and the second is for an extended warranty.
